Mount Vesuvius is in Pompeii, Italy. Vesuvius is the only active volcano in the mainland of Europe. When the mountain erupted a long time ago the ashes from the top of the mountain fell on the city of Pompeii and Herculem. Pompeii was covered with 20-30 feet of ashes. The scientists found out that 4,000 people died in pompeii. Scientists study Vesuvius more than any other volcanoe because Vesuvius erupts frequently and is very famous.
