Libra is the symbol of the scale and represents the months of September and October(end of September and the beginning of october). Libra was used to indicate justice, the balance of good and evil and the passing of seasons. Libra was the last of the 12 constellations to be added to the zodiac but is one of the most ancient patterns in the sky. To many early cultures around the world retain the scales as symbols of their justice system today.Sumerians referred to Libra as Zib-Ba -An-Nan ”the balance of heaven."The Chinese adopted the scales patterns, calling it Tien Ching ”celestial balance”
hindu astronomers referred to Libra as the “celestial gateway” because the sun, moon, and planets passed through Libra as they went through the sky.

At the end of the 18th century, many celestial cartographers to make Libra more than one constellation. The new ideas were solitaire, Noctua the night owl and the hermit bird. None of these smaller constellations lasted through the 19th century.
