Taurus is a constellation of the zodiac. If you were trying to find the constellation Taurus, you would look for a star called Aldebaran, which represents the angry red eye of the bull and a star cluster called Hyades. Hyades is the closest star cluster to earth. Taurus is next to two other constellations called Aries and Triangulum.
Taurus is easily located because of its brightest star Aldebaran. Aldebaran is the type of star called Red Giant. It is estimated to be about twenty-five times larger than the sun (a medium sized star) and one hundred and fifty times brighter. Aldebaran comes from the Arabic meaning “The Follower” because it follows the Pleads and Hyades clusters. In the southern arm of the “v” of the Hyades, lies a naked eye double star Theta Tauri.
Only the front half of the bull is located in the sky. Greek myth says the rest is under the waves of the Mediterranean Sea.
