Mount Mazma/ Crater Lake is located in Oregon. The lake formed about 7,700
years ago when the top of Mount Mazma, then about 12,000 ft. high collapsed.
A huge bowl was formed. Overtime it filled up with water.
The Klamath Indians believed that that the lake had healing powers. Jhon
Hillman a mining prospecter arrived at crater lake and named it deep blue
lake. This volcano is doormant [ which means that it erupts every 200-400
years].
In the begining there were no fishes in crater lake. But then different
kind of fish were put in the lake in the late 1800s to 1941. Some
rainbow trout and kokanee salmon still live there. It was made a national
park in 1902. The lake is almost 6 miles across its widest point. It covers
20 square miles.The surface is about 6,200 feet above sea level. its deepest
point is 1,932.
